CHOOSE ONE (1) OF THE FOLLOWING FIELDWORK ASSIGNMENTS

Architectural Documentation (due NOVEMBER 26):-

1)

Choose an “Islamic” building in southern California (list TBP), to be pre-approved by Professor; attach image of structure;

2)

Write an essay, addressing the following points:

 
A)
 What regional architectural precedents does the building follow? Argue your observations by making at least 2 comparisons to architecture/objects we have studied.
     
 
B)
 Argue one reason for why you believe this regional precedent was chosen by the builders.

400-450 words ONLY; note length on assignment
[Points deducted for differing word length AND for no length notation]
Obtain approval for chosen building by 14 November 2018.


Catalogue Entry (due NOVEMBER 26):-  

1)

Choose an object of Islamic origin, on display in one of the regional museums (links below); please attach proof of attendance (e.g. ticket stub) to essay;

2)

Write a thorough catalogue entry of the object, basing the work on example catalogue entries.

400-450 words ONLY; note length on assignment
[Points deducted for differing word length AND for no length notation]
Obtain approval for chosen object by 14 November 2018.
